4 ways to be more sustainable
In the past year, we have seen the real impact of global warming and how being sustainable and ethically conscious can impact the world around us. Fish and sea creatures have migrated back to waters they once left, animals that were on the verge of extinction are repopulating, and cities could keep their streets clean from the usual hustle and bustle of tourists and citizens going to work. But as we see people going back into offices, tourism picking up, and more social gatherings, I wonder will people revert to their old ways? Will people continue to kill animals in extreme quantities for food and fashion trends? Will people remember to throw their garbage in the correct garbage containers, or will they throw their containers on the streets of new york where a stray can enjoy? It's important to remember how our actions impact others. With that said, in my current daily routine, I am practicing the following ways to be more sustainable, and hopefully, these ways will inspire you too.
Use reusable products such as bottles, totes, and straws. These are a few of the reusable eco-friendly products I use every day.
2. DON'T WASTE FOOD! Many people are suffering from starvation and hunger. Purchasing fresh local foods will help prevent meat shortages, the over-killing of animals and supports small business. Going to the grocery weekly rather than bi-weekly will also be beneficial as it can allow you to eat fresh food and less frozen food with processed chemicals. Also, try eating non-meat meals 3-4 times a week; this will enable you to experiment in the kitchen. * TIP: When purchasing fruits and vegetables, keep note of whatever is refrigerated in the grocery as it is the same food that should be refrigerated in your home.
3. Stop or limit fast fashion by purchasing second-hand and apps like Poshmark and Depop. * TIP: wash all clothes in cold water to prevent colors from bleeding and preserving the quality.
4. Walk, A lot! Driving increases carbon emission, especially in the summertime, with everyone blasting their AC's. You can better air quality by thinking twice before taking that Uber and instead walking or riding a bike.
